Benevolent Birthday Bonus

My best birthday's always seem to be the one's where lots of people calling or sending well wishes. Today has been full of surprise visits for me.
  • My Mom drove up from Chandler, Arizona.
  • My Father-In-Law flew up from Phoenix, Arizona.
  • My neighbors have been stopping by.
  • My Grandparents drove two hours from Lander, Wyoming.
  • A big surprise, my cousin and his family stopped on their way through town from Portland, Oregon!
  • I've also had phone calls from friends in Gilbert, Arizona and Amesbury, Massachusetts.
Oh! And I've been having fun wearing the crown (Crown Me Queen pattern from StoryQuilts.com) that my Mom made for me last night, along with my "Heart of The Ocean" from Tom last year!

And yes. I really dislike posing for pictures... especially one's I'm taking of myself! :P Maybe I'll have Frank take a better one in a little bit...

In honor of this being My Birthday AND my 222 Blog Post, I thought I'd follow the lead of SO MANY others and do a little gift giving. I recently dug out this little sample/teaching piece:

This is just a string quilt made to demo some techniques. It measures about 14 1/2" square. I'll probably throw some other things in with it, but I'd like to at least offer up this little quilt for you. If you'd like a chance at it, please leave a comment by 5:23 pm Mountain Time on August, 8th. The winner will be chosen by at random. In your comments, tell me what makes a birthday great for you!

For me, spending time with my husband, kids, grandkids makes the day special. I don't need to be given things, just being with the ones I love is the perfect present.

And don't forget, Heather visited with a ceiling fan, a tree cutting and a little gift! LOL. Hope you were able to plant the tree.

I loved the birthday crown, especially that there was candy printed fabric on the other side and when the neighborhood kids came in to buy candy, you said you were the candy shop lady! I thought it was perfect.

A perfect birthday is one where I get a surprise. Not the usual gift that I always get or the gift that you felt you needed to buy me, but one that you saw and it reminded you of me.

Doesn't have to be a material object, could be anything and chocolate cake with chocolate frosting tops the day!

Hey,I just found your card. I have had your gift and card for a few weeks now. I didn't realize that I didn't have the card with me yesterday. Ugh.

Lately, good birthdays have been made by going on a vacation somewhere. Two years ago it was Sydney, last year Disneyland (yes, I'd been before, but it was still fun) and this year was Israel. I already have plans for next year is Spain. This way I don't have to deal with worrying about anyone forgetting my birthday (it doesn't matter, I won't even be in town for it!) and I get to do something fabulous once a year. Of course, if I ever got married I'd probably have to find a new way to enjoy it, but until then, this way really rocks.

Birthdays are great because you spend them with family! The cake is good too, even if I have to make it myself.

Happy Birthday!!! My husband makes a birthday great - he calls them Pdays, as in Present days and he doesn't allow numbers to enter the house! lol One year he put streamers all over the house (he made them and they said "Hap "P" Day") and started our new tradition.

Hi birthday month buddy! We're getting old. I'm glad to hear you had a nice day. I love to go to Maddox for my birthday. I haven't been able to go for the past few years, but I'm happy to report I'll get to go this year. I'm counting the days!

What makes the birthday? Being with your loved one. Oh, and them NOT reminding you that you are a year older.

Happy birthday! The perfect birthday for me would be a sleep in, homemade pancakes in bed and a lazy day filled with cuddles from my boys followed by dinner with my boys, parents and sister.
Thanks,

suzy q, happy birthday to you!

my best birthday was a beautiful day spent outside reading (i believe it was the latest Beverly Lewis), my children all being sweet to one another, and the evening spent with family.

but really, no matter what, it's all in the attitude.

hey, you got the puppy love tile, but i don't have your address anymore--e-mail me your snailmail, and i'll send you mine, and you can just wrap that quilt up right now! ;)

good for you for spreading the love! come by and see what's for August--okay, so it's another puppy, but not the same one. :)

Happy Birthday! ^^ What makes it great is to hang out with the people you love at a simple place like a restaurant.
